Weights of parts don’t progress smoothly
Strings not level -- hammers don’t touch at same time
Incorrect regulation makes hammers move differently
Incorrect friction makes hammers move differently

What are the goals of voicing?
Make the piano sound
Pleasing to the pianist & audience
As good as each piano can be
As the designers intended

How do we get to the goal?
Action must be regulated
Friction must be correct
Must be in good tune
Make hammers softer or harder
